Stingward Install

You build it.Who checks it?

With AI, anyone can ship an app, a skill or an MCP server without knowing what a vulnerability is. Stingward finds the holes and shows how to close them.

pipx install stingward

It also runs via npx stingward, as a Claude Code plugin and as a GitHub Action. See the code

Three real reports

Stingward 0.1.7 output for the two examples that ship with the repository, and for Stingward's own skill. Pick one.

The same results also come as an HTML report, with a summary, a remediation plan and the code excerpt for each problem. It prints straight to PDF.

Why it exists

AI writes the code, picks the package versions and sets up the config. It gets things working, but it doesn't tell you what it left open, and whoever ships the project has often never heard of a CVE, RLS or an exposed key. You don't need to become an expert: Stingward reads the project and explains, without jargon, what's wrong and how to fix it.

  1. 45%

of coding tests run on more than 100 AI models produced code with a flaw from the OWASP Top 10, the most common web vulnerabilities. Veracode, 2025

  2. 170

of 1,645 AI-built apps in a public showcase left their database open, exposing names, emails, API keys and payment data. CVE-2025-48757

  3. 36%

of 3,984 public agent skills had at least one security flaw, and 13% had a critical one. Snyk, 2026

  4. 23.8

million keys and passwords leaked on public GitHub in 2024, 25% more than the year before. GitGuardian, 2025

Audit stages

  1. First, it lists the files

It skips node_modules, dist and other generated folders. For a third-party skill it also reads the build, because that's what runs.

    13 files read in ./my-saas

    • .env
    • .gitignore
    • app/api/agent/route.ts
    • app/api/chat/route.ts
    • app/api/invoices/pdf/route.ts
    • app/api/invoices/route.ts
    • app/api/preview/route.ts
    • components/Chat.tsx
    • package-lock.json
    • package.json
    • supabase/migrations/0001_profiles.sql
    • worker/requirements.txt
    • worker/summarize.py
  2. Then it checks public databases

Only the name and version of each package go to OSV.dev, CISA KEV, EPSS and NVD. Without a lockfile, so does the lowest version each range allows. Your code stays on your machine.

    Sent to api.osv.dev

     {"package": {"ecosystem": "npm", "name": "next"}, "version": "14.1.0"}
    ]}
  3. Next, it runs 50 checks

Secrets, code flaws such as injection and SSRF, AI-app mistakes, agent configuration and skill content. Tests and docs count for less.

A security report for your AI-built app

Send a zip or one GitHub repository. Stingward checks the code, an AI reviews every finding and a second AI checks the first, and in minutes you get a PDF in plain language.

$29one payment

What you get

  • Every finding reviewed by an AI and checked by a second one
  • A PDF report with an A to F grade and a summary for non-experts
  • A step-by-step remediation plan, with an effort estimate for each item
  • For each problem: where it is, the code excerpt, why it matters and how to fix it
  • One free new check of the fixed version, within 30 days
  • A full refund, automatically, if the report isn't ready in 24 hours

What it doesn't cover

  • A penetration test: nobody tries to break into the running app
  • Servers, cloud setup, login and business logic that aren't in the code
  • The fix itself: the report says how, and you apply it
  • A guarantee that the app is secure: the review covers mistakes known at the time

Questions

Do I need to know about security to use it?

No. Each problem is explained in plain language: what it is, where it is, why it matters and what to do. The A to F grade sums it all up.

Does my code leave my machine?

Not with the tool. Only package names and versions are sent, to api.osv.dev, www.cisa.gov, api.first.org and services.nvd.nist.gov, and the responses are cached for a few hours. The paid report runs on our server: the code is deleted as soon as the report is ready, and the AI sees only a few masked lines around each finding.

Does a clean report mean I'm secure?

No. It means the most common mistakes aren't there. Stingward is a quick first check, not a penetration test.

What does the paid report add?

It's the same tool, and it stays free. In the paid report, an AI reviews every finding and a second AI checks the first, removing false alarms, and in minutes you get the PDF with the remediation plan. After you fix things, one new check is free.

Does it work offline?

Yes, with --offline. Dependencies aren't checked in that mode; the rest of the audit runs as usual.

How is it different from npm audit or Dependabot?

Each of those covers one part. Stingward puts dependencies, secrets, code flaws and the typical mistakes in AI-built apps, agents, skills and MCP servers into a single report, and audits a skill before you install it.

Why does npx stingward need Python?

The engine is a single pure-Python package with no dependencies. The npm package is just a launcher, so JavaScript users can run it without pip.

What if it flags something that's fine?

Add the rule and path to .stingwardignore, or add stingward:ignore to the line. If the rule itself is wrong, let us know on GitHub with a minimal example.

Does it check other people's projects?

No. Results go only to the person who runs it, about the code they chose to check. It never opens issues on anyone's repository.

Before you install the next skill, run stingward skill owner/repo

stingward skill owner/repo

It works with a local folder, an owner/repo name or the URL of a subfolder on GitHub.
